For the past three days we have been doing projects on invertebrates. I got worms along with Noel and Kian. Since we started i have learned a lot about worms even though I don't like them.
Today we had the author Mac Barnett visit our school. To prepare for this the whole week we did finger knitting for yarn bombing. Because of Mac coming we had no authors come last year to save up for someone like Mac Barnett to come. He came to talk to us about some of the books that he has written and to teach us how a book is made. It was fun listening to how a book is made and some of the books he has written. Another thing other grades and classes did to prepare was making posters and signs. I have only read a few of his books such as the Brixton Brothers (1 and 3) and Guess Who and Extra Yarn. I thought that it was worth not having a author visit last year.
This week we had two field trips and the first on was to the Capital. I liked the capital a lot because we got to do a lot of stuff their. One thing I like a lot was learning that they had built a lot more capitals but had to take them down and I also liked learning how the final capital caught on fire because of a worker who hadn't blown out his candle. I also liked going around the different parts of the capital such as the library and the second floor with the glass floor and the banner at the top. One thing I liked learning about was the U.S.S Iowa and how Teddy Roosevelt had two things made especially for him. Another really cool thing is that they didn't just put all the good designs at the ground level but they put some on the ceiling. I also liked the monuments out side dedicated to the soldiers from the Civil War. The art center/sculpture park wasn't as fun as the capital put it was still pretty cool. I liked seeing all the different arts and sculptures. The piece I thought was the best was the Thinker because it reminds me of the actual Thinker but a rabbit instead. It was the first time there but my sister and mom have gone. It may not have been the most fun of a place ever but it was still a really good trip especially going inside because it was really cold out.
For our artist research I did. This video is about Kenneth Noland and some of the projects he has down. Im sorry if you wanted to see a picture of the eight-64 but I could not find any and I could not find much info on it.
On the weekend not much happened besides someone turning down our fridge temperature to the lowest setting and that broke the fridge. Then I had to go the next three days going down to the basement to get food. Well after the three days were up we got our new fridge but the thing was I was at school so I didn't get to see it till I got home. But when I did get home the fridge looked nice. The freezer was on the bottom and the normal fridge was on the top. I know it might not have been fun to read about a new fridge and I am the same way. But the thing is that I'm wondering is who turned down the temperature. Everybody keeps claiming its them so in the end no one knows. So I didn't have a very exiting weekend besides the huge family party.
This is a project I did on the quartering act. Here is the link to the video. https://docs.google.com/a/ankenyschools.org/presentation/d/1kuv-_VFu63vwU9_nceQ1UffHLIvjauqrayXLsugsrrA/edit?usp=sharing
I really didn't do anything but eat, sleep, go to a party, throw up, watch TV, and play video games. It may not have been the best break but it was still a break. I was going to go to some place with my mom, cousins, aunts, sisters, and grandmother but, that was the day I got sick. Actually there are three more things. I got my birth certificate, my ID, and I got to go to my mom's work. So I had six fun things I did.
Last week we talked about tooth traditions. Two tradition I like are The Philippines and the Ancient Abyssinia traditions. The Ancient Abyssinia tradition is where they throw there lost tooth to a howling hyena, asking the hyena for strong teeth. The Philippines is where the child hides their lost tooth and make a wish. If they are able to find their teeth after one year, then they can make another wish. Both of these are different from the United States. There are traditions like the United States some are even the same.
The poem I chose is a poem that rhymes. The Meter is ABAACADDD and DDDACAABA. The poem is about a duckling who is not confident in becoming a swan and a duckling who is confident in becoming a swan.
